VISAL: “Proud to be a part of it!”
83-year-old about her participation in the project
VISAL – Visually Impaired Seniors Active Learningis a project funded by the European Commission and run by several national Blind Unions in the European Union. The Austrian Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted has been coordinating the project in Austria for more than a year now. Blind and partially sighted seniors from Vienna, Linz and soon also Klagenfurt participated in the programme which aims at fostering the social participation of elderly blind people. An especially active participant, 83-year-old Erna Zepke from the Austrian Blindenwohlfahrt, told us about her experience in the project.

VISAL enters second round
Register now for the second round of workshops!
Although they represent an increasing percentage of the population, elderly visually impaired people do not have as active a role in society as their experience could lead them to hope for. This is largely due to the limited and poorly adapted offer of training which is available to them. It is precisely to offer a solution to this problem that the VISAL (Visually Impaired Seniors Active Learning) project offers an informal training module tailored to their needs.

WIPO agrees on Treaty for Visually Impaired!
Historic agreement eases access to books for the blind and partially sighted
After more than 4 years of negotiations a historic agreement has been achieved at the conference of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Marrakesh/Morocco on June 26th: the negotiators agreed upon a treaty providing limitations and exceptions to copyright regulations for blind and visually impaired as well as for people with other print disabilities.
